Derrick Dorsey was born in Syracuse, New York and is a proud alum of the Syracuse City School District. His professional tenure includes serving as the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Syracuse, the Director of Community-Wide Dialogue to End Racism at InterFaith Works, and as the Support Specialist for the Onondaga County Reentry Task Force. As a consultant, Derrick has also provided Cultural Competency, Cultural Proficiency, and Unconscious Bias training throughout the state of New York for school districts, private and public companies, and nonprofit organizations.
Derrick has been a relentless advocate for public school education. Subsequently, in 2014, he ran and was elected Commissioner of Education for the Syracuse City School District, where he was the first person in the district’s history to serve as Board Chair for three consecutive years.
Derrick earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia and is a New York State certified Offender Workforce Development Specialist (OWDS).
